Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now available. What you need to know before playing?

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now available

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to the successful adventure game Jedi: Fallen Order, has finally been released. Fallen Order boasted a cinematic level of production and excellent combat, much like Sekiro. The sequel was released after 4 years and, according to critics, has grown noticeably in all aspects: in Metacritic, the new game has 86 points on the PS5 version. Here is the key information about the game: you will now know exactly what you are buying.

What is the game about?

The sequel continues the story of Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who joined the rebels and seeks to revive the Jedi Order. Five years have passed since the events of Fallen Order. Cal is no longer a Padawan, he is a Jedi Knight who is ready to fight against the Empire despite the numerical and technological superiority of the enemy.

How do you play?

Jedi: Survivor is a typical action-adventure game set in a semi-open world. The game is very similar to Fallen Order, but all aspects seem much more elaborate. Take the same locations: in Fallen Order they liked the variety, but here the levels are simply larger and more branched. The new game pleases with its verticality and hidden passages: item collectors will spend a lot of time looking for all the chests and hidden objects.

It's worth playing just for the incredible combat. This is thanks to hundreds of new animations that, with the right skill, turn the hero into a killing machine. Cal is now a Jedi Knight, with many acrobatics in his arsenal. Using the Force, on the other hand, opens up space for amazing combos, where pulling an enemy towards you and piercing them with a lightsaber is a boring fun that will soon become tedious.

How does it perform on PC?

But there are quite a few problems here. Recently, PC gamers have regularly faced poor optimization even for powerful systems, let alone older builds. Unfortunately, Jedi: Survivor is no exception. It has huge requirements for video memory: for example, the RTX 3080 Ti cannot run the game at 4K resolution.

The action also uses up to 18 GB of RAM if you play at 1440p. At the same time, it often does not load more than 50% of the video card and cannot provide stable 60 frames per second, even on the monstrous RTX 4090.

The first players crushed the novelty on Steam: only 34% of the reviews were positive. The authors have already promised that in the coming weeks they will work hard on patches that will improve the situation.

Is it worth playing?

If you're playing on console, then Jedi: Survivor is a great sequel with punctual changes. A stylish combat system, large branching locations, and the atmosphere of the iconic Star Wars will attract you; feel free to take it even today. However, if you are a PC gamer, then it is better to wait. Now the game is extremely poorly optimized and will obviously spoil the impression. After all, good games are rare in the Star Wars universe.
