PlayStation Productions is working on ten game adaptations. In a recent official PlayStation podcast, the head of PlayStation productions, Asad Kizilbash, spoke about the challenges and successes of adapting video games for film and television. He also talked a bit about future plans and said that ten different projects are already in the works, including an animated one.

We already know of some upcoming adaptations. TV series based on Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and Twisted Metal are in development, as well as a Ghost of Tsushima movie from John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski, and an adaptation of Gran Turismo. The second season of HBO's The Last of Us will also be coming out in the future.

Other projects have not been named yet, but presumably include adaptations of Days Gone, Gravity Rush, and Jak and Daxter, about which not much has been reported since their initial announcement.

A simple count shows that PlayStation Productions has at least one project we haven't heard about yet. Perhaps it's the one that's being created in the animation genre, like the previously canceled Sly Cooper cartoon.

Adapting video games into movies and TV shows has always been a tricky process, with few successes in the past. But PlayStation seems to be putting a lot of effort into making it work, with a dedicated production team and a focus on staying true to the source material.

The success of recent adaptations like The Witcher and Castlevania has shown that there is a hunger for quality video game adaptations. And with PlayStation's impressive stable of franchises, there is no shortage of material to work with.

It will be interesting to see how these projects turn out and if they can break the curse of bad video game adaptations. With PlayStation's commitment to the process, there is reason to be cautiously optimistic.
