Woman gave birth to nine children

In Morocco, a 25-year-old woman from Mali gave birth to nine children - two more than doctors found during a scan.

Mali resident Halima Cisse gave birth to premature babies in Morocco - the government sent her there to provide specialized care. Halimi's husband said that his wife gave birth to 5 girls and 4 boys at the same time. Mom and children are doing well. Children weighing from 500 g to 1 kg will be kept in incubators for 3 months.

Professor Youssef Alawi, medical director of the Ain Borja Clinic in Casablanca, said the case was “extremely rare, exceptional,” and the delivery was assisted by a team of 10 doctors and 25 paramedics.

The woman, who had eight children in the United States in 2009, is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for the most surviving children born at a time. Halima can break this record.

Previously, there were two such larger groups of premature babies, one born to a woman in Australia in 1971 and the other to a woman in Malaysia in 1999, but none of the babies lived more than a few days.
